Little secrets (you didn’t hear it from us)

Swipe, tap and hold tricks in chat

Hold a message and tap Reply to answer it. Tap a message to see exactly when it was sent. Tap someone’s photo in the chat to open their profile. Tap a photo to zoom it, then pull down to close. Whatever you were typing is saved if you leave and come back.

Can I search in full sentences?

Yes. Try “Who dey mechanic”, “women in tech”, “gamers wey get PS5” or “anyone for lodging”. WhoDey reads what you mean, not just the exact words.

Is “casual dating” on my profile?

No. It helps us match you and tell you about the right things, but it is never printed on your profile for others to see. Same for what you tell us you’re up to: only people who need it hear about it.

What if someone screenshots my profile?

We can’t stop a screenshot, but when someone takes one of a profile, WhoDey gently tells them to keep it secret and not to cast anybody. You are never told who, so nobody gets embarrassed.

What is the heart on Discover doing?

It is actively searching for people around you and refreshes by itself, so you don’t have to keep pulling. Tap the map to see which areas have people.

What is an Ask, really?

A quick “anyone for…?” that stays open for tonight, tomorrow, the weekend or the week. People who fit get told first, and when they reply, they appear at the top of your Chats as “people available around you”. Chat privately, no group.

Who is the WhoDey team in my chats?

The real team. Message us any time with a problem or an idea and a real person answers. Yes, we see everything people send there. No, you can’t block us. Don’t even try 😄

Can I set a username?

Yes. Me → Edit profile → username. People can search it and it goes on your share card, so friends find you fast.

Put a plan on my phone calendar?

Yes. Open any plan and add it to your calendar, with a reminder, so you don’t forget and don’t ghost.

Do photos in chat stay forever?

No. Photos sent in chats clear after 24 hours to protect everybody’s privacy. If you want one, ask the person to send it again.

Jobs and gigs

How can I get offers for a particular job or gig?

Go to Me → Edit profile → What I do. Pick what you do, like Mechanic, Barber, Photographer or DJ. If yours isn’t there, type it in “Add your own” (for example linkup or barista) and tap Add. When someone posts an ask or a job with those words, you’re told first, before other people nearby who only seem alike. Words you add yourself work right away for jobs, asks and messages, and show on your profile once the WhoDey team has checked them. Add everything that fits, up to 10, and keep it to what you really do.

How do I post a job?

Open the Plans tab and tap “Anyone for…?” (or tap + and choose Ask nearby), then pick Jobs under Kind. Say what it is, where and the pay. People reply to you privately. Asking for work isn’t allowed here, only posting jobs and gigs.

Can people find me by what I do?

Yes. In search, type something like “Who dey mechanic” and people who picked or added it show up.

Getting started

What is WhoDey?

WhoDey helps you find people around you in Lagos and nearby towns like Sango, Mowe, Ibafo and Agbara. Meet people first, chat, then do things together through Plans and Circles.

Who can use WhoDey?

You must be 18 or older. We ask for your birthday when you sign up and you can’t change it to a younger age later.

How do I find people?

Swipe through Discover for people near you. Tap the search icon and type what you want, like “Who dey mechanic” or “women in tech”. Tap the location icon to see which areas have people around. Tonight shows who is out now, and Plans and Circles are for doing things together.

Is WhoDey free?

Yes. Premium is free for everyone on WhoDey, because we gather dey.

What is Spotlight?

A short boost that shows you higher in Discover. You earn it by bringing friends who really join, from Settings → Invite friends. It never lasts long and it never hides anyone else.

Matches and chats

How do matches work?

Swipe right or tap the heart to like someone. If they like you back, it’s a match and a chat opens. You can send a quick starter or a sticker straight from the match screen.

Why can’t I message someone?

You can chat with people you’ve matched with. Plan and Circle chats open when you join.

Can I undo a swipe?

Yes. Rewind is a Premium feature, and Premium is free for everyone. A like that already became a match can’t be undone.

Location and privacy

Do people see exactly where I am?

Never. Other people only see your area name (like Yaba) and, if you allow location, a rounded distance like “about 4 km away”.

I don’t want to share my location. Can I still use WhoDey?

Yes. Choose your area yourself in Settings → Location. Everything works; we just don’t show “km away”.

How do I hide from people?

Turn on Incognito in Settings → Privacy, so only people you’ve liked can see you. You can also turn off “Show when I’m active”.

Ask nearby

What is Ask nearby?

A quick way to say what you’re up for, like coffee, a movie, drinks or a meetup. People nearby who like that kind of plan are told about it and can reply. You can post 2 asks a day, and every 2 friends who really join add 1 more a day (up to 10). Asks stay out of Plans: find them under Plans → Just posted. Jobs are for posting only, you can’t ask for work.

Who sees my ask?

You choose. “People I’m looking for” shows it only to people you’re looking for who are also looking for someone like you. “Everyone” shows it to all nearby people who like that kind of plan. You can also pick Single, In a relationship or Married, and then only people who told us that see it.

Is my relationship status public?

No. It is private and never shows on your profile. It is only used to decide which asks and plans are shown to you. You can set or clear it in Edit profile.

Why am I not getting asks?

Asks only reach people who are nearby, who like that kind of plan, and who fit who the poster chose. Add your interests, set your area or location, and say whether you’re single, and you’ll see more that suit you.

Who dey around?

The location icon on Discover lists areas with people in them, nearest first. An area with fewer than 3 people stays hidden, so nobody can be picked out.

Plans and Circles

Who pays for a plan?

When you post a plan that’s open to anyone, you’re the host, and the host pays: you cover the bill, or at the very least you spill it, unless the plan clearly says everyone pays their own way. If guests should pay for themselves, put it in the cost note before anyone joins so nobody gets a surprise. Never ask guests for money after they arrive, and don’t collect money upfront through WhoDey. You agree to this once, before your first plan.

How do I join a plan?

Open the plan and tap Join or Ask to join. Some plans, like house parties, need the host to approve you. You’ll get a notification when they answer.

Who can see the address of a house party?

Only guests the host has approved.

Account

How do I verify my profile?

Settings → Verification. Adding a phone number, email or a selfie check makes your profile more trustworthy.

How many photos can I add?

Everyone needs at least 3 photos. Men can add up to 4 and women up to 6. Photos are made smaller on your phone before they upload, and their location details are removed.

How do I update the app?

Open the App Store on iPhone or the Play Store on Android, search WhoDey and tap Update. If an update matters, WhoDey also shows a note with an Update button.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete account. Your profile, photos, matches and messages are permanently deleted.

Community guidelines

Be real

Use your own photos and your real first name and age. No pretending to be someone else, and no fake or stolen pictures.

Be respectful

No harassment, hate, threats, bullying or unwanted sexual messages. If someone says no or stops replying, let it go.

Keep it safe

Don’t share other people’s private details. Never ask anyone for money, airtime, transport fare or gift cards.

Keep it legal and clean

WhoDey is for meeting people. No selling sex or sexual services, escorting, scams, drugs, weapons or anything illegal. No nudity in photos.

18 and over only

Anyone under 18 is removed immediately. Report a profile if you think someone is underage.

No spam or promotion

No advertising, promoting businesses or sending the same message to lots of people.

What happens if you break these rules

We may remove content, warn you, suspend you for a while or ban you for good, depending on how serious it is. You can ask for a review by contacting support.
