Jobs and gigs near you in Lagos
In Lagos the best hire is often the person two streets away whom someone already trusts. WhoDey helps you find people near you by the work they do, and helps people who do the work get told first when a job nearby fits them.
How do I find a mechanic, barber or tailor near me in Lagos?
Ask people you trust first, then look close to home, because in Lagos a short trip matters as much as the price. In WhoDey, type what you need in search, like “who dey mechanic” or “who dey tailor”, and you see people near you who say they do that work, with only an area and a rounded distance shown.
Search reads what you mean, not just the exact word. People choose up to 10 kinds of work for their profile, so you are looking at what they say they really do.
How do I post a job or gig?
- Open the Plans tab and tap Anyone for…? (or tap + and choose Ask nearby).
- Choose Jobs as the kind of ask.
- Say what the job is, where, when and the pay. Clear, specific posts get better replies.
- People nearby who do that work are told first. Each reply arrives as a message request: you read it and decide whether to accept. Nothing opens until you do.
Only verified members can post jobs, plans and asks, so the person posting has at least confirmed who they are. You can post 2 asks a day, and get 1 more a day for every 2 friends you invite who join, up to 10.
How do I get gig offers for what I do?
Add your work to your profile: Me → Edit profile → What I do. Pick from the list (mechanic, barber, photographer, DJ and more) or add your own. When someone nearby posts a job or ask that fits, you are told before people who only seem similar.
- Add only what you really do, up to 10 kinds of work.
- Words you add yourself work for matching straight away, and show on your profile once the WhoDey team has checked them.
- Asking for work in public posts is not allowed. Posts are for jobs and gigs being offered, which keeps the feed useful for everyone.
What kinds of work do people look for nearby?
The jobs that work best on a nearby app are the ones where distance matters and you want to meet the person:
How do I hire someone safely in Lagos?
- Check the profile. Look for verification ticks and ask for past work, photos or someone who can vouch for them.
- Agree the price and scope in writing in the chat before work starts, including materials.
- Avoid paying everything upfront to someone you have not met. A part payment for materials, the rest on completion, is common and fair.
- Meet in public or at their shop first when you can, and tell someone where you are going.
- Never send money for “registration” or “forms” to get a job. Real jobs on WhoDey do not need you to pay to apply. Report anyone who asks.
More on meeting people safely is on the safety page.
Is WhoDey a job board?
No. For office roles with CVs and interviews, use a job site. WhoDey is for the nearby side of work: the trusted mechanic, the tailor for an outfit by Saturday, the photographer for a birthday, the extra hands for a move. For meeting people in your field, see networking in Lagos.
Is it free to post a job?
Yes. WhoDey is free to use, and Premium features are currently free for everyone.
Who sees my job post?
People near you, with those who list that kind of work told first. You choose who gets a chat by accepting their request.
Can I ask for work in a post?
No. Add what you do to your profile instead, and you will be told when a nearby job fits.
